La rue s'est appelée "rue Arnaud-de-Fabre" en 1911, du nom du docteur Joseph Amédée Arnaud de Fabre (1839-1907), surnommé "le médecin des pauvres".
Elle reprit son ancien nom de "rue Sainte-Catherine" vers le milieu du XXe siècle.
